The unique and unrepeatable nature of live music is central to understanding the expressive beauty and irresistible honesty of Grigory Sokolov’s art. The interpretations of the great Russian pianist, which come to life during the performance with a mystical intensity, spring from a deep knowledge of the works that make up his vast repertoire. After the success of the past two seasons, Grigory Sokolov returns to the Auditorium with a new recital that opens under the sign of Beethoven, from the grand Sonata No. 4 in E-flat major, Op. 7 to the intimate and visionary Bagatelles, Op. 126, a summit of the composer’s late creative period. In the second half, the pianist turns to Brahms, performing the dreamlike Ballades, Op. 10 and the two Rhapsodies, Op. 79 — works imbued with the youthful passion and fervent lyricism of a composer still inspired by the rhapsodic spirit of Schumann.
