The\u00a0Accademia Bizantina<\/a>\u00a0returns to the\u00a0Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Tuesday, April 21 at 8:30 PM<\/strong>. Led by\u00a0Ottavio Dantone<\/strong>, the ensemble celebrates the Baroque tradition with a selection of concerti grossi by\u00a0Corelli<\/strong>,\u00a0Geminiani<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0H\u00e4ndel<\/strong>. The program also features\u00a0Pergolesi<\/strong>\u00a0Violin Concerto, performed by concertmaster\u00a0Alessandro Tampieri<\/strong>, closing with his masterpiece\u00a0Stabat Mater<\/em>\u00a0featuring soprano\u00a0Suzanne Jerosme<\/strong>\u00a0and contralto\u00a0Delphine Galou<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Accademia Bizantina<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Founded in 1984, since the late 80s Accademia Bizantina has focused on Baroque repertoire, developing a distinct stylistic identity under the leadership of Ottavio Dantone (Music Director since 1996). Their approach is based on rigorous source research and brings original instruments on stage. As a global leader in Baroque music, the orchestra brings together world-class musicians and performs in the most prestigious concert halls. Their award-winning discography includes Grammy, Gramophone, Diapason d\u2019Or and Opus Klassik honors.<\/p>\n

Ottavio Dantone<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since his time at Milan Conservatory,\u00a0Ottavio Dantone<\/strong>\u00a0established himself as one of the leading harpsichordists of his generation. He was the first Italian musician to win top prizes for the harpsichord at the prestigious Paris (1985) and Bruges (1986) International Competitions. With Accademia Bizantina Dantone has expanded his repertoire, from operatic repertoire to Classical and Romantic symphonic works. As regular guest at the world\u2019s major theaters and festivals, he was elected Member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in 2022.<\/p>\n

From the Concerti Grossi by\u00a0Corelli, H\u00e4ndel and Geminiani to the great\u00a0Stabat Mater<\/em>\u00a0by Pergolesi<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The program opens with the\u00a0concerto grosso<\/em>, the quintessential instrumental form of the early 18th century. The interplay between the\u00a0concertino<\/em>\u00a0and the full orchestra finds its definitive expression in\u00a0Corelli\u2019s Op. 6<\/strong>, a true model for composers like Handel and Geminiani. The second half opens with Pergolesi\u2019s\u00a0Violin Concerto in B-flat major<\/em>, featuring soloist Alessandro Tampieri, the ensemble\u2019s concertmaster and artistic co-director. The evening closes with Pergolesi\u2019s\u00a0Stabat Mater<\/em>, one of the most beloved works of the 1700s: Pergolesi employs the full range of Baroque rhetorical devices to depict the Virgin Mary\u2019s grief. Soprano Suzanne Jerosme and contralto Delphine Galou, both specialists in Baroque repertoire, bring their mastery to this iconic piece.<\/p>\n
